I'm a What? But That's a Curse!

Do you believe words have power? Proverbs 18:21 says The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat it's fruit. Life and Death? Well  almighty God spoke the world we live in into existence. In Genesis 1:3 it says And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. Our words are alive and we are forwarned to use them wisely because they can hurt or heal.  Wow what power is given in words! Most of us know the words Peter Parker's (Spiderman) Uncle Ben said to him, "With great power comes great responsibility." True. Think about how our words can change, heal, enlighten, encourage and so on.  And from history we know that the same power of words that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. used to inspire a nation and cause an opressed people to rise up and fight for equality and justice despite the risk of their very lives, and eventually his own, was the same power or words Adolf Hitler used to lead a nation to the horror of genocide and a war that took many lives including his own. Wow, what power of words! We are told in the Bible to be wise with our words, we are warned to tame our tongues, even in joking for good reasons. The words we speak can come to as we begin to believe them. This is why speaking words of affirmation is important.  It's seen through out history in a huge way but how about daily? What about the small things in our everyday language habits? What you speak is a reflection of your heart as in Matthew 15:18. Again, Do words really have power? What if that person is joking? Even jokes can sting although we cover that with laughter. Some times our ego, thick skin, defensive walls etc will not allow us to even admit the hurt those jokes or comments hurt cause. Sometimes that hurt caused by words will manifest in other ways of behavior. We won't even realize why we are behaving in such ways (insecurities, bitterness, rage, etc) until we take a deeper look at where the planted seed came from. Sticks and stones might break my bones but words... will and can hurt me. So if words are so powerful tell me what do you think of the use of N-word? The N-word, Yes you know the word used originally as an insult to Blacks that can now be used as an term of endearment depending on the sitution. Is it just an insult? Just a mean word? Is it an acutal curse?? Lets reflect, words have power right? Yes. We can speak curses or blessing over our lives right? Yes. Well here is the definition of the N word Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive. 1. a black person. 2. a member of any dark-skinned people. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive.  a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc. A victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised. That word is a curse any way you use it. Strange. So using this word daily reinforces curses upon peoples lives! Even in the definition today it's not anything you would want to speak over someone, not even in jest and certainly not in everyday language. So if we believe words are powerful then we have to realize that ALL words have an effect, good or bad. Applying this, then use of the N word daily or not, it has the power to cause a person to be extremely disparaging, offensive, contemptible, inferior, ignorant, a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised. The Bible forewarns about using our words wisely for a reason. A reason such as this! Observe those who use this word frequently in response to themselves or others. Do their lives reflect the definition of the word in some form? It wouldn't be surprising if it does. It goes to prove God is right! Words have power and we should use our power for good because they can cause a whole world of hurt and pain. But wait... Why would people take a word that their ancestors were beaten, hung and oppressed by and embrace it as their own? Isn't that a bit turned on its side?  Yes, and the Lord forewarns us Hosea 4:6 " my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge..." Open your eyes, rise up and be wise.
